I'm a lover of vintage clothing and decor, and I know many of you are too, but when it comes to finding a vintage frock that's perfect enough for your big day, well, that can get a little complicated if you don't know where to look. This post from March 2008 will get you started with some seriously helpful expert guidance! Overview of the Past Year
Oh, my poor abandoned princesses and blog. I apologize: I got frustrated with day 7âs gown, then I got bored of my story and I got bored of princesses and all of a sudden itâs past Christmas and the story is fast making its way towards New Yearâs resolution territory. (âAnd then they can find eggs for Easter,â says my mom. âAnd wear green for St. Patrickâs day!â I add.) I canât just abandon them, so I will finish the story before next Christmas, Iâm sure. And it is a good lesson for me: drawing

A Match Made in Halo
By Casey Lynn Contributing Writer, [GAS] Considering that many people spend almost as much time playing games like Halo and World of Warcraft as they do at work, love matches made in-game are only going to get more common. They may not have made our list of geeky proposals, but Desirai Labrada and John Henry not only met over the dulcet sounds of n00bs being fragged, but theyâre having a Halo-themed wedding. Desirai and John (aka SickNdehead and psychovandal) met on the battle fields sho

Amid Political Change, Troops Prepare For Iraq
FORT DIX, N.J. -Â Over his holiday leave, 1st Sgt. Lewis Walls will put a ring on his new bride's finger, hold their baby boy one last time, and then report back to deploy to Iraq. Even as signs point toward the winding down of U.S. involvement in the Iraq war, there's been no slowing in the deployment schedule for Walls and more than 4,000 other members of the Pennsylvania Army National Guard. They'll be assuming their positions in Iraq around the same time that President-elect Barack Obama

Woody Harrelson Gets Married
I didnât even know that Woody Harrelson was dating someone, let alone that he has been dating her for 20 years or that they have 3 daughters together! Her name is Laura Louie and they are no longer dating as this past Sunday, the two held a ceremony in Hawaii, attended by a few friends and family, to tie the knot and finally make it official. From Daily Blabber, âWoody Harrelson and Laura Louie were officially married yesterday on the island of Maui,â the actorâs rep told UsMagazine.com Monday

It Happened
I am not ashamed to admit that I've read Martha Stewart Weddings since 2006 (I just checked my bookshelf to give you an exact date). Maybe it was being the only girl in my urban-alt-theatre friend circle who actively wanted to get married one day, maybe it was my love of pretty things, I don't know. But I used to buy them in the subway station, and sneak read them on the train, so when I ran into someone I knew I didn't have to explain myself (hiding my addiction to Offbeat Bride was simpler). L

Connecticut Weddings 2008: Getting Ready
I have to admit, this is my favorite moment of the entire wedding day. There is something so amazing about a bride being surrounded by generations of important women as she puts her dress on, like so many of them did before her. It is a time when emotions begin to run raw, where mom and grandma get tiery-eyed, and the bride sees the culmination of her life thus far staring back at her in the mirror. Here are some of my favorite getting ready shots: Photographs courtisey of Carl

The Robber's Bride
Germany Once upon a time there were a man and a woman to whom the dear Lord had given a wonderfully beautiful daughter. The parents and the child prayed, and worked, and lived good and wholesome lives. One day when the daughter had just reached her fifteenth year a splendid carriage drove up to their little hut. A distinguished gentleman emerged from it and said to the parents, Do you not have a daughter whom I could marry? No, was the answer. To be sure, we do have a daughter, but she

Portland Oregon Wedding Photographer {Laura Michael sneak peek #1}
Once again I could not possibly combine all the photos I want to show off from Laura Michelâs winter wedding into one blog post. I peeked one quick one already here. I had an amazing time with these two, and I think the photos show it! Laura Michael got married in literally the biggest snow storm of the last 40 years. Bidaai Video Episode Of 29 December 08
Ragini and Ranvir get married soon in Bidaai show. Ragini (Parul Chauhan) was not only very excited but was asking everyone right from the producer to the director regarding her bridal make up and costume too. The dress that she wore was so heavy that Parul found it extremely difficult even to stand. At the end f it, shooting for five consective nights, the actress was completely drained out and could very well identify with the plight of a real bride. While in the recent episiode of Bidaai, Ra

An Argentinian wedding, with beef tenderloin
In another era, every detail of a wedding this grand would be reported in the newspaper, from a description of the bride's dress and the flowers in her bouquet to the names of the most prominent guests. In the internet age, I find myself being careful to keep things anonymous without any real reason, except that it seems like an invasion of privacy not to. The wedding, which started last night at 8:30 p.m. and ended at dawn, as Argentinian weddings do, was held in the Nuestra Senora del Pilar

What Are Some Ideas for Bridesmaid Gifts?
Your bridesmaids do a lot for you in the months leading up to your wedding. In addition to standing up for you during the ceremony, they also spend time and money getting ready for the wedding. What Wedding Dress Are You Wearing?
Getting married used to be a simple task - find the right man, ask for your parentsâ approval, wear momâs wedding dress, and walk down the aisle. Now, itâs a little more complicated, and of course, thereâs no way youâre wearing what mom had worn. Itâs a little outdated. Your wedding dress should feature the latest in wedding gown styles. If you canât find the gown of your dreams, donât fret, thatâs just the proverbial tip of the iceberg. Thereâs more where that came from. White? After Labor Day

Idolatry and culture
Gibbon captures the pervasive character of idolatry in Roman society and culture in a passage from the Decline and Fall:Â Â âit was the first but arduous duty of a Christian to preserve himself pure and undefiled by the practice of idolatry. The religion of the nations was not merely a speculative doctrine professed in the schools or preached in the temples. The innumerable deities and rites of polytheism were closely interwoven with every circumstance of business or pleasure, of public or of

So how exactly did Keith Urban and Nicole Kidman hook up?
When I think of celebs I think of huge parties where everyone is famous and they spend their time comparing statues and awards and everyone knows everyone else.  Despite being a nice thought, I suppose it's probably not really that way and it's probably kind of hard for a Hollywood Oscar winner to come in contact with and eventually marry a country musician. Well a new book by author Jeff Apter explores just how Keith and Nicole met. According to the book, Fortunate Son: The Unlikely Rise

A Funny Wedding Speech Story
A Funny Wedding Speech Story By Sara Brown | December 20, 2008 by Sara Brown Not all cultures practice the traditional wedding speech custom. This practice is increasingly being adopted in other parts of the world, along with many other western wedding traditions such as the white bridal dress and veil. This is an accurate chronicle of my husbandâs wedding speech experience from the ceremony for his daughter a few years ago. Sense the bridegroomâs mother had passed away unexpectedly weeks

Advanced Color Correction Tutorial that will Knock Your Socks Off!
This tutorial shows you an advanced method of evaluating your photographâs color accuracy and making the proper color correction adjustments. It is a more sophisticated technique of removing unwanted color casts, but the result is amazingly accurate. Does require some basic knowledge of Photoshop. For this tutorial I will be working in Photoshop CS3 using a stock photograph that came with Aperture 2. Because Xmas came early this year
Event : vPOST Nuffnang Christmas Party 2008 Date : 20th December 2008 Venue : DXO, Singapore Yes, I was one of the lucky one being invited by Nuffnang to go all the way to Singapore for the Christmas bash with fully sponsored transportation and accommodation. Nintendo DS Games For Girls
Are you done with your Christmas shopping? I hope so, since itâs Christmas Eve. If your still finishing up, here are a couple Nintendo DS games that might make last minute stocking stuffers for the little girl on you list. There seem to be more and more Nintendo DS games out there for girls these days. A year ago you could look at the selection and many of the games were geared toward boys, or for both boys and girls. Not too many games created specifically for girls, now there are several. H

Nuffnang-vPost Christmas Party
I was in the office working on my story when Chingy called me on the phone. âHey, you free this weekend?â âMaybe.â âYou are invited to the Nuffnang Singapore Christmas Party this coming Saturday. Everything is provided, we will take a bus down and stay at Singapore Marriott Hotel.â âShouldnât be a problem.â And that was how I ended up in Singapore for a not-even-24-hour trip to Singapore. A Momentous Day
Oh my⦠It was an incredibly special day. And at the end of it, all that mattered was that Courtney married her best friend and became a Mrs.Some wonderful memories were made. We all woke up at my parents house and trooped downstairs to talk about the rehearsal and the rehearsal dinner. We laughed, we swapped stories, and we all agreed that it was a successful evening. We got ready and headed to the beauty salon where the bride, the mother-of-the-bride, and all the bridesmaids took turns getting

18th Century Marriage Customs
Guest post by Stephanie Cowell Mozart married at the age of twenty-five in Vienna's Stephansdom Cathedral, where you can still go today and kneel near the spot where he knelt with his bride. He was a city man and sophisticated, so he may not have participated in some of these wedding customs...or perhaps he did. Nevertheless, he set to work at once to get his bride between the sheets, which was what mattered in his eyes. However.... For good fortune, the bride of the late eighteenth-century mus

KCCI-TV's gratuitous features
KCCI-TV is a local television station operating out of Des Moines, Iowa. I don't know what they're like if you live in the area, but I love the feature stories they archive on YouTube. They have good writing and camera work, tight editing, and a dry sense of humor when they know they're covering a journalistic cliche. The segment titles and descriptions started out as theirs, and still mostly are. Pigs on the Interstate: Dozens of pigs are scattered over I-35, outside of Des Moines after a semi

Sealing the deal in the Sunshine State
This weekend, my mother, father, sister and I trekked to Florida. I say trekked because there was literally a blizzard. Honestly, I am still in shock that we made it there and back with little to no flight fright. My cousin, Adam, tied the knot. I still can't believe it. It seems like just yesterday I was sitting on his lap listening as he read Sesame Street books to me, and now he is a doctor and married. Time flies. I only found out a couple of days before the event that we were all supposed to wear costumes to the Nuffnang VPOST Christmas Party in Singapore. What made matters worse for me was the theme â" we all had to dress according to one of the letters V, P, O, S or T. And this Yat had to assign me the letter V!!! I asked Yat âV? What stands for V? Glamour Don't
Think you're having a bad fashion day? It could be worse -- at least you're probably not one of the poor souls identified on the pages of Glamour magazine as a cautionary "don't," your identity semi-protected only by the addition of a black anonymity bar across your eyes. While Counterfeit Chic usually considers Glamour Dos and Don'ts to be a public service, every now and then a member of this august fashion police force turns out to be a rogue cop. The Pretty Tree
While I do believe wholeheartedly in allowing the holiday decor to be dictated for the most part by the younger population that lives in this house, I do keep a few corners for myself. The formal dining room plays host to my decorating whims, a mish-mash of severe girly-ness. Come see for yourself... M calls it my scary bride tree since I wrap it all in white and cream tulle. These magnolias were actually part of his parent's wedding rehearsal dinner center pieces over 45 years ago...

The chosen color palette was black, white and pink. I just love that color combination! Do You Take Dexter Morgan? Season 3 Finale and Recap
The Season 3 finale of Dexter managed to wrap everything up neatly, if a bit hurriedly, concluding with a big, happy wedding scene and the same words the season opened with: âLife is good.â Dexter has grown into a new role, the supporting cast have all had their own personal triumphs, and the dangers set in motion by rogue elephant Miguel Prado have been defeated. Color Week 2009: Classic Black and White Part II
Here is another twist on the classic black and white: there is an added burst of pink--my favorite color on the whole planet! This is a throwback inspiration board I created some time ago for a 2009 wedding. The celebration that was planned was just for every guests to have a grand time. The chosen color palette was black, white and pink. I just love that color combination! With a little damask thrown in for extra oomph. {Safely substitute the damask with zebra print, and, voila!} While the

Multi-tasking... The Best And The Worst!
Christmas may just bring out the best in us, or does it? For sure I can do my very best (worst?) multi-tasking at this time of year! While the embroidery machine is blissfully creating a band of trumpeting angels I have wrapped gifts, addressed cards, written a shopping list and hemmed a bridesmaid's dress. That bridesmaid's dress belongs to my daughter-in-law, the wedding is Saturday. Sure, I said, I can do that! I wanted to hem it the way it was from the store; a narrow, rolled hem; ma

This is the first truly happy ending the series has had, and all things â" save for that single spot of crimson that dripped from Dex

Gay Marriage Protests at Suspected Gay Governorâs Wedding
The protest of Gov. Charlie Cristâs (R-Fla.) wedding to glitzy just-divorced Halloween costume mogul Carole Rome went off as planned Friday. The candlelight vigil organized by Impact Florida went largely ignored in the fawning press reports on the nearly royal wedding, in which the bride wore virginal white and declared that although this would be a total of three marriages between the two of them, itâs the only one that counts. Guess that makes her two daughters whose home was recently wreck

The Pretty Tree
While I do believe wholeheartedly in allowing the holiday decor to be dictated for the most part by the younger population that lives in this house, I do keep a few corners for myself. The Ugley Vicar Preaches a Wedding Sermon: On the wearing of robes
An interesting take on the wearing of robes, by the Ugley Vicar at a wedding. I agree that there is a sense of hating hierarchy and authority in today's world -- including in churches. But hierarchy or authority doesn't mean that the person with the authority in a certain context is necessarily better than the person in submission. Some very good citizens have some very bad policemen -- for instance -- in authority over them. Some very wonderful children have some very bad parents in au

How Pastorâs Perpetuate the Weekly Masquerade and What They Can Do To Change It
Most of you who read here belong to a traditional church of some sort. I want to first say I am not against the âtraditionalâ church, though I disagree with them on many critical issues, especially over the last 9 months. I guess I would also struggle with most of the house guys if they begin to isolate and insulate themselves from others in any divisive manner. I think in some sense many traditional churches, regardless of how hard they try, will begin to lose the family aspect of the New C

When it all goes wrong, the wedding is right
I was perhaps the most easy going bride ever. I can say this with confidence, knowing more than a few brides. I planned everything pretty much by saying What do you have that resembles this? and going with it. Simple cake, simple dress, simple ceremony, and lots and lots of colorful flowers, all done in the park. Everything fell into place. I knew a guy who knew a guy who had a neat old-fashioned car like I wanted. We went to a wedding show and found someone who did AMAZING flowers for cheap,

The Ugley Vicar Preaches a Wedding Sermon: On the wearing of robes
An interesting take on the wearing of robes, by the Ugley Vicar at a wedding. I agree that there is a sense of hating hierarchy and authority in today's world -- including in churches. But "hierarchy" or "authority" doesn't mean that the person with the authority in a certain context is necessarily "better" than the person in submission. Some very good citizens have some very bad policemen -- for instance -- in "authority" over them. Some very wonderful children have some very bad parents in "au

Dreaming Planing
Seems like everyone I know around is getting married these winters. I was whining for some weddings to take place last year and here I am. Bombarded with them :~) Pakistani weddings are all about colors, joys, dhoom dhamaka, and loads of laughter. A few tears too ~ if you are on brideâs side (true for poor groom too? I wont be one ever ~ so canât say) So many flavors. If you have attended your own wedding ~ do you think bride and groom gets to have as much fun? ;o) May Allah bless these cou

Top Quality Wedding Handbag You Would cherish!
Your wedding has been something you have pictured in your mind for many years. While growing up, playing the part of the princess was just as much a part of your childhood fantasies as the prince who would sweep you off your feet and the trip down the aisle in your beautiful wedding gown. Along with that wonderful wedding gown in which you would be married, the accessories that went along were just as important. The right shoes, the veil, the headpiece or tiara and of course the perfect handba

Real Wedding Saturday: Lexy & Jared
Heather Balliet of Amorology shared her cousin's wedding with me, and I thought it would be so much fun to share with you! Planned by the bride's mother, the sweet, vintage prom-inspired reception is full of fun and thoughtful details. Lexy's dress was by Tadashi. A dressmaker in Utah added sleeves, removed sequins and made the veil. Lexy's mother designed and made the silk belt and rosette, and added vintage buttons from Lexy's great-grandmother's collection down the back of the dress (and on
