I was working on a report and realized I was really watching a show about women selecting wedding gowns called "Say Yes to the Dress." It's really incredible how dramatically different something along the exact same theme (white wedding dress) can be to each individual bride. And I was completely relating to the wedding dress consultants:1. Listen to the bride. Listen to the members. Guess what? They don't want the same thing. Sure, they want a long white dress. It's always the details.2. What's

Friday at Couture Fashion Week Spring 2009
Most people assume that Fashion Week means shows in the Bryant Park tents, but some of the most colorful and innovative designs are being shown throughout the week in other locations. Couture Fashion Week always showcases these types of designers. The dress is elegant, the crowd, eager to see what's on the runway(s), and there is always a display of luxury goods in the venue, such as this amazing, hand-beaded handbag by D. Rothbury (designer, Dee Rothbury). On Friday, September 5th, at th

Anne Hathaway: what George Clooney taught me
If Anne Hathaway is suffering from toothache â" or perhaps, for that matter, heartache â" on the day we meet, she is hiding it well. A consummate actress, she is bright-eyed and talkative, and shows none of the tension you might expect from someone who has just had root canal treatment with a French dentist (we are in Paris) and is also coping with the reported messy ending of a four-year relationship with her Italian-American boyfriend Raffaello Follieri. What makes her performance all the more im

Behind the Scenes of Joon's Wedding
So here are some behind-the-scenes looks at Joon's wedding at Lake Arrowhead Resort and Spa. Below is the hotel lobby. Real men iron! Here is Troy ironing chair covers at 2 am the morning of the wedding. After the rehearsal dinner at about 9:30 pm, we went to set up the reception ballroom, only to discover the chair covers Joon had brought were very wrinkled. Six irons, 220 chair covers and sashes and many hours later the ballroom, looked like this... Joon's cousin made the zebra st

Creative Halloween Costumes for Women, Girls, & Couples
This Halloween, you could don a trendy Halloween costume for women (think Hilary Clinton or Sarah Palin), or stick with the âtried and trueâ costumes (Queen Elizabeth or Amelia Earhart). Hereâs an extensive list of creative costumes for women, girls, and couples - it was a blast to research! First, though, hereâs a quotation about Halloween from Gwen Stefani: âBeing in a band you can wear whatever you want - itâs like an excuse for Halloween everyday,â said Stefani. A Shower for Shortcake [Part 2]
{read part one here} (Sister Shortcake and friend started baking cupcakes at midnight) Because we had the bridal shower the next day, we had to leave my engagement party early. My mother, Sister Shortcake, a dear friend, and I stayed up until four in the morning setting up all of our decorations and preparing food for the next day. Good thing too, because the next morning, guests started arriving at 10 AM, instead of at noon as the invitation had stated! (Hurry girls! Companyâs coming

Second Marriage Wedding dress
Wedding ceremonies are always a special time for both the bride and the groom. There are many couples who take pride and delight in choosing various aspects of their wedding ceremony together, but many times a lot of the responsibility falls on the bride and the wedding planner, if there is one. One issue that many brides struggle with, though, is what type of wedding dress theyâll wear to their wedding ceremony. Those brides who are experiencing a second wedding especially have trouble decidin

KT Tunstall Getâs Married!
Congratulations to Scottish singer KT Tunstall, who got married this weekend to Luke Bullen. The couple tied the knot during a private ceremony on a remote island in Scotland! Jessica Biel: Going To The Chapel?
The beautiful Jessica Biel did nothing to dispel those "soon to be married" rumours yesterday as she rocked up to the Toronto Film Festival wearing a crisp white dress fit for a bride. Justin Timberlake's long standing girlfriend was in fine form as she arrived for the premiere of her new film Easy Virtue, wearing the frilly one-shouldered creation with red satin heels and a chic up-do. And, although Jess was forced to deny rumours that she was pregnant with JT's child earlier this month, she

The Perfect Dress
Jennifer's wedding day was fast approaching. Nothing could dampen her excitement -- not even her parent's nasty divorce. Her mother had found the PERFECT dress to wear and would be the best dressed mother- of-the-bride ever! A week later, Jennifer was horrified to learn that her father's new young wife had bought the exact same dress! Jennifer asked her to exchange it, but she refused. 'Absolutely not, I look like a million bucks in this dress, and I'm wearing it,' she replied. Jennifer told h

Board #277: Budget Friendly #8, Garden Party
If you're lucky enough to have a beautiful home, or have parents with a beautiful home, or close friends with a beautiful home, consider holding your wedding there. Though you'll pay for rentals that might be included in other venues, depending on your number of guests and other venue options, this might still be the cheaper option. Not to mention incredibly personal and authentic. Of course you can have a beautiful wedding in a hotel ballroom or a stark urban loft, but... Who says...you can't

Old, New, Borrowed and Blue
Like many brides, I will be incorporating something old, something new, something borrowed and something blue into my walk down the aisle. I looked into the history of this famous tradition and this is what I found (courtesy of the Weddingbee Wiki):Â Something old - continuity with the brideâs family and the past Something new - optimism and hope for the brideâs new life ahead Something borrowed - an item from a happily married friend or family member, whose good fortune in marriage is suppo

Finding your dream wedding dress
Now you are engaged and the hunt is on for a couture wedding dress. What exactly do you mean by that? Wedding Etiquette: Whoâs Doing What?
The first thing that needs to be figured out is who will be handling what aspects of your wedding day. This is often a difficult situation because people will go one of two ways. ⢠They may want to do anything and everything for you. They may want to pay for everything, spoil you rotten and make sure that everything is perfect for you. They often want a controlling hand in the wedding planning to go along with this, though. ⢠They may instead want to play a minimal role in your wedding, ma

Having shot Raphael and Melorâs solemnisation ceremony in July, I knew I was in for a good time when their wedding receptions (yes, plural not singular) came around. In the midst of the stress and anxiety of planning a wedding the brides do have one more thing added to their list that they have to be worried about: choosing a wedding dress. 3 Sanity-saving wedding planning tips for soon-to-be brides
Our wedding is now just one month out, and Iâm feeling pretty good about where we are with our planning. Itâs taken a while for me to get to this place. Planning for changes to your wedding dress
When it comes to wedding dresses there is no point in having the most wonderful wedding dress unless it fits perfectly. Most of the time, a bride will go on a weight loss âfixâ before the wedding. They will be watching what they eat and doing earth shattering exercises to make sure that their body is in ideal shape for their big important walk down the aisle. The implication of this is that the wedding dress that you ordered or fitted months before the wedding might hang like a loose sack on yo

Hong Kong Day 3
Today (26/8/08) was a perfect day. Out of all the days we were here, I enjoyed today the most because we had no appointments and no schedule. 6th Aunt will be operated on tomorrow, and she was in good spirits when we spoke on the phone. I made a wise decision not to race against time like I always do when I'm in HK, covering all the major malls. So I picked Festival Walk, a classy mall that is not overly high-end (although by Malaysian or Singapore standards it would be) or impossibly big. Festi

Ever since I first saw this spread from the Summer 2006 issue of Martha Stewart Weddings, I have been in love with the idea of a picnic wedding. You can dress it up or keep it casual, and either way, it's an unexpected idea for a wedding reception. If you love the idea but want a more formal, traditional wedding, this can work just as well for a rehearsal lunch. You can easily spend a chunk of money on picnic food, but you don't have to. I'm getting excited for the wedding
It was $105 to get my dress altered. At a place in the mall. That seems expensive ... my friend (who lives in Ontario, and is also a bridesmaid) also said that her dress was huge, and it was $85 for her to get hers taken in. So I guess $105 is reasonable, considering this is Vancouver, and she lives in a small town. The bride said that she would pay us back for the alterations, but I feel like just telling her not to worry about it. She has enough on the go right now. I guess I'll wait to see w

Hilary + Dave @ La Venta Inn Filed Under (Weddings) by Chenin Part two of my Labor Day Weekend double-header was Hilary and Daveâs lovely wedding at La Venta Inn. Hilary and Dave booked me a looong time ago, so it was fun to finally get to work with them. They were both super-involved in the planning of their dream wedding and it was great to see everything come together for them! A little dress detail- The lovely bride - And the handsome groom - A nice shot of the view from

Weekend in Alabama
On Friday, I went home for the weekend. I went to my morning classes, then Elijah picked me up at 11 a.m. and I drove home as he worked on homework. I skipped my two afternoon classes, for getting home for my sister Miriam's wedding rehearsal was more important. After all, it only happens once! The rehearsal went well, and it was wonderful to see family again. The rehearsal dinner was also a lot of fun, the food John's family prepared was delicious, and the pictures and toasts produced a lot of

Weekend Snapshot #41
To join this weekly meme, click here. Little Groom These photos were taken just before the weekend. We attended the wedding of my husband's cousin and girlfriend. Our son was part of the entourage. He was assigned the role of 'Little Groom'. In previous weddings we attended, Yohan was asked to be a Ring Bearer and Bible Bearer. This is the first time he was asked to be a Little Groom. Actually, it's the first time I encountered this role in the wedding. He was simply asked to walk on the aisle

Pearl Bridal Jewelry
Wedding is the most wonderful experience for every human being. This is the day when two souls become one. It is the dream of every bride to look the most beautiful woman on the earth on her day. Jewelry plays a vital role to add more charm and beauty to the aura of the bride. According to many jewelry designers, pearl bridal jewelry is the best to make the bride look gorgeous. Pearls hold a timeless and classic elegance and catch everyoneâs eyes towards them. Here is a list of different way

My Eight-Year-Old Self is Dying of Envy
When I was but a wee lass â" this was in the 80s â" Barbie wore clothing that looked nothing like the clothing I saw on your average adult. Heck, her clothes were brighter, quirkier, and more frilly than anything I ever saw on a model, rock star, or cartoon character. I donât think I have to tell you how badly I wanted kid-sized versions of Barbieâs wardrobe. I guess my tastes havenât changed all that much, because I think this might be my new favorite wedding dress: The bride is one Princess

Bridesmaid Dresses
Havenât we all be in a wedding where weâve had to wear a hideous dress? And by hideous, I mean not only was the dress ugly, but it was an awkward length, and it probably cost somewhere around $300. Well, I donât know about you, but I donât like wasting money. Especially not on a lime green dress with a pink sash and orange tulle underneath (donât forget the matching flip-flops and straw hat!), nor on a dress with shoulder pads that went out of style during the Brenda & Brandon years (90210,

Wedding Day - Orcas Island, Washington, United States
Jump to the full entry & travel map Orcas Island, Washington, United States We were all up and down at breakfast by 8am. Matthew had spent the night in with Richard Hill his best man. The big job for the bestman and maid of honour was making sure that the bride and groom didn't see each other while they were both at the same hotel. They took breakfast in shifts and then Matthew went with all the boys back out to the famr house to clean up from last night. After see

How I Came to Wear a Turkey Cutlet Bra to the Wedding
This is how I came to wear a turkey cutlet on my boobs at the wedding last week. A month or two ago, I called my cousin with a proposal. She likes to shop; I do not. I needed a floor-length black bridesmaid dress. She met me at the mall with my list of requirements. I had the dress instructions from the bride, a price range, and a request to make the shopping portion of the trip last under a half hour. She moved us through the mall like Michael Phelps in the 100 meter butterfly. She whipped th

The Full Monty in Boston
Thereâs so much Champ and I love about having our wedding in Colorado. But there is one thing thatâs not great about a small town, and thatâs shopping for a dress. Although Iâve been able to find pretty much everything else in my small hometown, wedding dress shopping was not on my to-do list in Vail. In fact, when I was a kid, my mom and I used to drive two hours to Denver for all of my back-to-school shopping. It was always a special trip, and became a tradition for the two of us. But having

Miss Hot Cocoa
Miss Hot Cocoa Thereâs an interesting post on the U.S. News and World Report Alpha Consumer Blog about the escalating costs of being a wedding guest andâ"especiallyâ"a bridesmaid. Hereâs the money quote: But the heftiest burden of all falls on bridesmaids. They play a role that, for all the honor of its implied intimacy to the bride, comes with a price to match. Bridesmaids are often expected to buy a dress, matching shoes, and jewelry, not to mention professionally applied makeup and nail p

The Retirement of Mrs. Smith
(Unless you were at the wedding it is unlikely youâll have any idea what that subject means.) And lo, Other Sherry got hitched yesterday. Again. (She and Jodil live in the Netherlands, so they got married there in July for local friends/family, then got married here for the local contingent yesterday.) All went well, and the snags, of which there are always some, were relatively minor. The weather was gorgeous, and being back home was a nostalgia trip as always, and I stood in a farm lane ne

Everything Old is New Again - Trends
I guess it is only natural during times of change to harken back to earlier times and that is exactly what I am seeing in trends for the fall. Take fabrics for instance. Many of the fabrics used on both the runways and in weddings are the beautiful elegant fabrics reminiscent of an earlier time. Fabrics with weight, sheen, and texture are being used in fresh new ways.  Satin has always been known for its gloss and sheen and has been the choice of European royalty since the Middle Ages

Mother of The Bride: Figure flattering for all ages from Kaleidoscope Whatever your age, many women don't want to bare all on a formal occasion, but still want to look sleek and a little bit sexy. This Chiffon Overlay dress from Kaleidoscope is a great way to get a fashionable, stylish look, while covering up any and all unwanted areas. Katy Perry Gets Hitched: But Is She Kissing The Bride Or Groom?
Katy Perry has bitten the bullet and decided to get married - on set of the video for new single Hot and Cold. The controversial singer was flashing plenty of leg as she hitched up her sugar pink wedding dress during the L.A. shoot. The only blight on her big day was when one of her handlers stepped on her dress, causing her to trip. But Katy soon regained her composure, and happily waved to fans. The bubblegum pop starlet has sparked controversy after some gay groups labeled her song

Questions Answered: Part 7
I haven't forgotten that I still have a few more of your questions to answer. Today I'll talk about my wedding day. And a little about the marriage, too. LOL!Because C asked "Do you wish you never got married or are you glad that you did? Will you ever get married again?"I don't regret getting married. I learned a lot of lessons from the whole thing. My wedding day was May 30, 1999. My divorce was final on May 2, 2001. Quick, wasn't it? Technically we got a "Decree of Dissolution of Marriage" in

Es-cape to the cape!
This weekend we headed off to Cape Cod to celebrate a friend's wedding! Hurricane Hannah tried to cause a rockus via weather.com earlier in the week but the rain held off and it ended up being such a pretty night! It was at the Wychmere Harbor Club in Harwichport, MA.. ...and it was the perfect occasion to bust out the new dress I bought at White House Black Market last week. Chapter One, Courage in Patience
CHAPTER ONEWe go onâ"because it is the hard thing to do.And we owe ourselves the difficulty.---Nikki GiovanniMy name is Ashley Asher. Thatâs right, go ahead, and laugh. Apparently, my parents thought it would be âcuteâ to make my first and last names nearly identical. My family and friends call me Ash. My mother calls me by my first and middle names, Ashley Nicole. Her husband, Charlie, thought he was real clever and called me Ash-Hole.Iâm fifteen years old, and I live in Patience, Texas, an East

She might be the mother or the bride, if . . .
Thought weâd mix it up a bit with a post from Writer Chick . . . The girl definitely has a way with pictures, donât âcha think? ~m The mother of the bride is that special person to whom all the presnickety details are left, who must stand vigil over cold feet, buffet mishaps, giving sage advice and trying not to become a raving lunatic whilst pretending to enjoy the fact that their daughter is marrying a goon that has no actual right to have made it through the gene pool. The truth about being a Bridesmaid
**STICKY: Have you checked out Our One Heartâs latest contest?** Iâve been a bridesmaid more times than Iâd care to remember and I enjoy it, truly. I love my friends and for me, being asked to be one of their bridesmaids is an honour. Iâve emceeâd wedding receptions and organised weddings for friends and family as well. I get a thrill from seeing how happy they were on their special days. The difficult part of being part of the bridal party is the cost. If youâre financially tight, being

Just stuffâ¦
Just a few things: *I went to the wedding on Friday night. The bride was gorgeous, the groom was handsome, I had a great time. I wore the print dress (Hubs liked that one alot) I was rewarded for the effort  . Unfortunately, I donât have pictures of myself, but they do exist for other people. Donât they look happy? *I am now entering the second full week of my Alli diet. So far, so good. No âdistressâ. No starvation. I even found ice cream sandwiches that fulfill the cravings for sweet,

Rant or Rave: Trash the Dress
One of the biggest trends in wedding photography these days is to âtrash the dress.â After the ceremony, the bride schedules one more photo shoot where she literally ruins her dress in the waves on the beach, in an industrial junkyard, out in the snow or in a variety of other creative ways. This practice makes for some pretty cool photos (check some of them out at the Trash the Dress website), but some argue that it seems more than a little indulgent to ruin a dress that could be given to cha

A Whole New Online World
Previously in the Purple BM Dress Series: Purple Dresses: The Quest Begins The One Where the Bride Takes a Chill Pill After months of scouring the city on foot, I had finally found Nirvanaâ"a lovely purple bridesmaid dress for my girlsâ"only to have it pooh-poohed. It was at that point that I realized I had only one place left to turn. Oh sure, I had dabbled in it before, sending Miss P, Pepperpot, and Lilâ SIL a couple of links to random dresses I found by accident, but at that time I was j

Have Your Dream Day Wedding
I never really liked formal gatherings, even less when I would be the center of attention. I guess that is why I opted for an informal wedding at the pastor's office. Jer even had to "force" me to buy a dress for the day! We ended up compromising - I got a skirt and a blouse, instead. With the exception of Beth, all of us married girls at the office had informal weddings. Vicki still wants a big wedding ceremony, wedding dress and all! That is why from time to time, I would also think about hav

Here Comes The Bride
No, that's not me ;o) LOL! DH and I are just packing up now, on our way to St. Andrews. His sister is getting married this weekend so it's going to be a busy three days. Thankfully, this is the last SIL to marry so hopefully no more weddings in my near future. I think I'm all wedded out :oS I'm not your girly type girl but I am anxious to wear my new dress that I bought this past summer. DH even bought me a set of earrings with matching necklace just for this occasion. We're calling it my annive

Static: Donna the Dead Bride`
I love Donna the Dead -- but I didnt' want to spend so much for the animated one (even though last weekend the plain one in the white dress could be had for $79 online and now she's already gone up to $129 at the same online retailers!!) so I took a chance and bought the static Donna the Dead bride. She's only $39 so I thought it would be worth a try! Here's a video I took of her this morning -- she's not great but for $39.00 I can try to fix her up a bit! I'm very happy that she has the sound t
