Women Whose Halloween Costume Is That They're Slutty, a song

Women Whose Halloween Costume Is That They're Slutty, a song: airhen: Sent to me by Cake or Death. How about instead of “Slutty X” costumes, we start doing “Frumpy X” costumes? Some ideas: Frumpy cheerleader Frumpy zombie Frumpy pregnant zombie Frumpy pregnant zombie bride Frumpy hobo Also, if I ever have a kid, I will dress her (even him!) in one of those standard baby pumpkin costumes and tell people she (or he!) is a slutty pumpkin. You’re my favorite, and I found an Elmo costume. Br

Go Brush Your Teeth!

If they’re anywhere near as sugary as mine are, you need to brush them twice. No sugar coating on this blog today - it was 100% candy time! This afternoon Becca, Zora and I enjoyed snacks of greek yogurt with granola plank and PB plus hot tea. Zora liked the sunglasses she found in our house, plus the rocking chair that the husband sat in as a baby When the husband came home he opened a pumpkin beer and gave Becca and me a sip. It was good, but Cottonwood is still king of pumpki

Happy Halloween!!

Hi Everyone!! Before I begin, I want to thank all of you for being so supportive about my needing to slow down on my blogging. I want blogging to be a good experience and not one that I feel I have to squeeze in when I don't have the time to blog. I've been enjoying my quality time with my family. It's been nice to be able to hang out with them rather than being always holed up in my craft room. I really appreciate all your comments. . .you are all such wonderful people. I wanted to share a ca

When did Halloween become HO-lloween?

I wasn't going to write this post.  I really wasn't.  But then I was walking through the mall today and saw THIS in the window of the Halloween costume store: WHAT THE FUCK?!  I know that they call it "Wizard Academy Student" but you and I both know that that is a SLUTTY HARRY POTTER costume!!  At what point did dressing up for Halloween become an excuse to whore it up?  Seriously.  When?  When did Halloween stop being about dressing up as something creative, something original?  At what point

Ah, Trunk R Treat Time Again!

A yes, the yearly tradition of Trunk R Treat continues! Jake was undecided as to whether or not he was going to go this year, but Grayson made a poor choice in costumes which resulted in Grayson having two football jerseysâ€"so Jake gets to be a Bears fan, Grayson gets to be Devin Hester, Blakelynn being a bride and Barrett being Captain Feathersword from the Wiggles. One of my favorite little boys from Blake’s class in Primary would not leave her side, almost seemed like they should be shoppin

Wedding Oddities

Guest Post By Mcheku who is just back to blogosphere after a looooong hiatus. Welcome back Mcheku. Weddings are known to be grand, classy, glamorous, sophisticated affairs, where everyone is on their best behaviour. I am sure like me you have attended a countless number of weddings. I am also sure that there are some that stand out in your mind for all kinds of reasons. Today I want to talk about the other the side of weddings. The bride is expected to behave in a certain way and some thing

Trick or Treat: Halloween Make-Up

The young whippersnapping childer of today don’t even know they’re borned, what with the shop-bought outfits that they do be parading around in for the Halloween. We all remember when a big bin bag with holes cut out for your arms and your noggin and last year’s mask or - if you were dead lucky - your sister’s old witch’s hat was the standard garb, God be with the days. While I was always scared witless of bangers and fireworks, I used to love getting dressed up for Halloween (even if it was

HOT SHOT DEBUT: ADLER LOVER

Hello there. How’s it going? Is everybody ready for Halloween??? I’m frantic, my costume is proving harder to put together than I thought. I need a fancy white dress that isn’t going to make me look like a bride. Is that possible? I love white, I would make nearly everything in my house white if I could. In which case, the Jonathan Adler ornament set and salt & pepper cats are perfect for me (and you too of course). I used to work in a ceramic shop so you can take my word for it, these pi

"HAPPY BIRTHDAY TBC"

OH MY GOSH GUYS....THE BRIDE'S CAFE IS 1-YEAR OLD TODAY...YAY!!!   And this little "cutie" is SO excited for me and I hope you all are just as excited...isn't she a "doll"...the joy on her face is truly how I feel each day that I post my features and read your comments and emails....THANK YOU ALL SO VERY MUCH!  I'm excited to share with you that I am working on a new TBC design and site and a few other surprises that you will LOVE....now we will be celebrating TBC's birthday all next week (I

My halloween costume: YOU!

After working on offbeatbride.com for almost two years now (and Offbeat Bride the book for another year before that!) I’ve started to see some definite trends in offbeat bride styles. I mean yes: we’re all doing our own thang, but there are definitely elements that seem to pop up repeatedly in offbeat weddings. To celebrate this, I decided that this Halloween I would dress up as, well, YOU! I wanted to see how many offbeat bride trends I could pack into one outfit. No one in Seattle will g

Permanent Link to Happy Halloween!

I adore Halloween. Love getting to dress up in costumes. And people give you candy! What’s not to like? Although if I’m honest, which I am, I must admit that I’d far prefer salty treats to sweet ones. But a girl can’t have everything. This year, I’m off with friends to see the Chicago Symphony, who’ve got an excellent program planned: they’re playing the soundtrack to the 1935 film BRIDE OF FRANKENSTEIN followed by a screening of YOUNG FRANKENSTEIN. Haven’t decided yet what to wear, but I’

Queen Refers to SGLs as "Those People"

In a new biography, The Queen Up Close, Spain's Queen Sofia has a few words about the SGL community. In discussing the issue of gay pride: "I can understand, accept and respect that there are people of other sexual tendencies, but should they be proud to be gay? Should they ride on a parade float and come out in protests? If all of those of us who aren't gay came out to protest we would halt traffic." ... and on gay marriage: "If those people want to live together, dress up like bride and gr

Literary Halloween costumes

Literary Halloween costumes are soooo much cooler than dressing up as Sarah Palin -- as if everyone and her sister hasn't already thought of her. Bookish costumes are almost endless -- you can go as a character, an author or even an idea. I'm not sure how you might dress as, say, semiotics, but if you could do it, you would be welcome at the Brooklyn Bookstore McNally Jackson on Friday night. That's when the store is having its second annual literary costume contest. Inspired by the bookstore

Advice From the Pros: Lo and Co.

In keeping with our beauty theme this week, we have an Advice From the Pros interview with Laura from the awesome Lo and Co. website and blog.  The Lo & Co. artists offer personal makeup services in the New York City metro area.  We asked Laura to put together some tips for us on bridal make-up trials!   Lo & Co.: Who was the highest paid person on Sarah Palin’s staff this October? Well, according to the Federal Election Commission, it wasn’t her foreign policy adviser, nor her chi

How to Have an Awesome Engagement Shoot

I’ve actually been wanting to do a post like this one for a while, and it finally came about! I’ve seen a ton of wedding photography since I started working here at Beau-coup Wedding Favors, and while I’ve seen some absolutely gorgeous pictures, I’ve found that having some sort of a prop or gimmick seems to make couples look more at ease, and it also makes for some interesting viewing. Anyway, I hope you enjoy these engagement pictures. I know I did. Oh, and stay tuned on Monday, for my favorit

Wedding mustaches

Offbeat Brides and their grooms and their guests love fake mustaches. LOVE THEM. I have no idea where this trend came from, but within the last month I’ve seen enough mustachioed wedding parties to realize that this isn’t an isolated incident. And in fact, it’s not even just weddings â€" mustaches are everywhere. I’m telling you, fake mustaches are hot right now, people. Fake mustaches are the new red wedding dress. Take a look at all the mustaches in the offbeat bride flickr pool! I get tha

The Week in Yelp: Halloween Brainstorming, Sans Brains

From the people who brought you The Week in Craig, one of the all time great uses of the internet, comes The Week in Yelp, wherein Amy Blair takes aim at the ridiculousness that is the world of Yelp. Her intrepid Yelp-surfing, and words, follow: Tomorrow is Halloween, and I am freaking PSYCHED about the fact that, for once, I’ll be doing exactly what I want to do on Halloween: NOT wearing a costume. I’ve Netflixed Corpse Bride and Transylvania 6-5000 (is it okay to use “Netflix” as a verb? I h

Rib Bones And Other Various Parts

I know, I know, I'm a baaaaddd blogger...and I'm so sorry for this long silence. I even must add I don't have a real excuse apart from lazyness...I enjoyed these last warm days (yesterday it was like summer, no jokes! And today, apart from a crazy -Mary Poppins's coming - wind is still a beautiful day) but I'll do my best to post more often in the upcoming weeks and months, when cold and rain will sadly be here. Tomorrow's Halloween and I'd love to be again in New York... we don't have a real

A real groaner!

Via e-mail from Fred M.:Two brooms were hanging in the closet. After a while, they got to know each other so well, they decided to get married. One broom was, of course, the bride broom, the other the groom broom. The bride broom looked very beautiful in her white dress. The groom broom was handsome and suave in his tuxedo. The wedding was lovely. After the wedding, at the wedding dinner, the bride-broom leaned over and said to the groom-broom, 'I think I am going to have a little whisk broom!''IMP

Seriously? How will Jen be a hot bride...

When faced with constant free meals like this: This was the scene at a recent MBA barbeque/fatty gorgefest. I mean COME ON PEOPLE. If it's not the boozing that will kill my wedding figure, it's the meat. Lots and lots of meat. Meat everywhere. And not healthy meat, either! And because I'm a poor grad student I have no choice, I MUST EAT IT. I MUST EAT THE FREE FOOD. Sigh. As if post-workout puking weren't enough of a lesson... Colossus would have my head if he ever learned of the true deterior

I Got Nothin'

So far today has been a wonderful day. Might be because it is only 9:30 and I have only been up for an hour!!! You read that right, folks! I slept until almost 8:30 am........8:21 am to be exact. I remember the good ole days when I thought that getting up at 8:30 on a day I didn't have to was torture, now it seems like such a treat. Sad that at 35, rest is a thing of the past. My yesterday was spent at Lake's school for Harvest Day. Every time I work at his school, it is apparent to me that teac

Our Love Story: Fairy-Tale Wonderful

August 23, 1986. I spent the morning with my family and my best friend Nicole. I was thrilled she’d been able to fly from Florida to be in my wedding. We ate breakfast, gathered things together to bring to the church, and fussed endlessly with our hair, an operation that involved curling irons and copious amounts of hairspray. I imagined John spending lots of time getting ready too, but found out later that he’d actually spent the entire morning washing his car to gleaming perfection. His car

Howard Stern & Beth Ostrosky - Ceremony Photo!

People Magazine has a first look at Howard Stern and Beth Ostrosky's wedding ceremony at Le Cirque in New York. Here they are exchanging rings. Well, she's getting her ring, by Suzanne Wilson. He went for a more modern approach, getting his bride's initial "B" tattooed on his ring finger. Oh Howard! I hope this really does last, because I've known couples who tattooed their wedding rings and then got DIVORCED. My personal cynicism aside though, what a gorgeous couple. Howard Stern cl

Reception Decorations To Compliment Your Wedding Theme: Top Info

photo credit: silver marquis When planning a wedding, reception decorations can be used to match the theme of the wedding so that the bride and groom have an exciting overall experience. While buying all the wedding reception decorations can be an expensive undertaking, numerous firms rent virtually every type of decoration a couple could hope to find. For instance, if they want a beach theme wedding they could even have sand brought into the reception to give the efect of being on the beach.

drag race

drag race Wednesday, October 29th, 2008 When I moved to Washington, DC in 1988 (holy shit, that was 20 years ago) my real introductions to the town were Adams Morgan Day and the Drag Race. I missed the Drag Race this year, but I think the Washington Post article sums it up beautifully: If you haven’t spent a frigid evening watching a sparkly herd of men stampede as if on a life-or-death escape from a Bedazzler that already attacked them once, then, honey, you simply haven’t lived. I’m deepl

Being His En Gedi in Your Appearance

My recent series on being your husband's En Gedi (oasis of rest/haven) has covered attitude, food, friendship/affection, sex, and homemaking. Now we move on to our appearance. Before we were married we probably spent a lot of time fixing up and making sure we looked our best for our special guy. But something happens after we have kids and can barely stumble out of bed in the morning and can barely find time for a shower or to use the restroom. How can we please our husbands in our appearance

The poor are now the rich people Jesus warned you about, part CXVII

The poor are now the rich people Jesus warned you about, part CXVII Trashy UK trailer park denizens (probably Gypsies, since the bride is only 16, dropped out of school at 9, and her father resurfaces driveways -- a very Gypsy profession) spend 100,000 pounds on wedding in which bride wore hot pants & crop top "dress" -- in a Catholic church. Girls as young as nine showed off bikini tops, high heels and make-up. Shame on the parish priest for allowing this -- but I guess he fig

World's most romantic couple have married six times

The world's most romantic couple Anette and Kenneth Lund have already married each other six times as well as breaking a world record with four ceremonies in one day. By Daily Telegraph reporter Last Updated: 2:42PM GMT 27 Oct 2008 The pair are so besotted they plan to keep tying the knot every year until they die in a bid to keep the excitement of their marriage alive. The Wrong Way to Call Off a Wedding

In last week’s discussion of cold feet, we talked about some of the ways one can cope with pre-wedding jitters and what happens when the wedding is called off. The presumption was that if one calls off a wedding, one does so as gracefully and as tactfully as possible. None of this runaway bride business, in other words. But I guess that’s just us â€" we are rational and level-headed people, after all. Some people choose to operate on the other side of the spectrum, like the Japanese man who

Wedding Day Memories: Trash It & Take A Picture

Just like hairpins, special-occasion makeup always finds a way to make multiple rounds on your social calendar. A girl can't have too much glitter or liquid liner, even if Halloween and the office holiday party are the only times you uncork those tubes. But what about something really specific....like the giant tulle and satin cupcake of a dress you bought for your wedding? It's sorta only good for one occasion (unless husband #2 is very liberal and very into recycling...), right? Today's Br

Influential 80s movies (13 Days of Halloween)

Influential 80s movies (13 Days of Halloween) Wednesday, October 29th, 2008 John Landis wrote and directed American Werewolf in London, which wowed audiences with it’s amazing effects (Oscar win for Rick Baker), humor, gore, sex, and more gore. It’s pretty dated now and the effects don’t stand the test of time, but the movie is still funny, goofy fun. The soundtrack remains amusing, it’s chock full of songs that make reference to the moon - “Moondance”, “Bad Moon Rising,” multiple versions of

Marry a Democrat…LOL

Minimize the Stress of Your Wedding

Is stressing about your wedding taking most of your energy You need that energy for running errands and making decisions. To harness the energy you spend stressing and place it to good use, you first need to find out what exactly you are stressing about. Many aspects of a wedding cause stress, and you need to figure out what that aspect is before you can rid yourself of it. One major cause of stress is the intent that you need to keep up with social and individualized expectations. Stop worry

Nice and Cosy

Josie & Hon Meng's wedding dinner reception was held at Burswood on the same night of the church ceremony. It was a nice change from the typical wedding dinners in Brunei which is always packed out with 30 to 50 or more tables. In contrast, this one was a cosy five table affair, no karaoke but instead, some live singing and jazzy songs, as well as ABBA! I wasn't going to put this up but this is how my hair turned out~flicked out on the right side, itching Desmond's face *kekeke* The view o

Wedding Dress Fitting

Today, I'm taking my lovely bride-to-be to try on her wedding dress. It's being tailored in Guadalajara and today is the fitting. We'll return a few days later to pick it up and then she leaves me for a month to get the wedding ready. :( Just guess how long it took her to pick out a dress....twenty minutes. I love this girl!! She hates to shop and loves to eat steak. She even likes camping out and she's NOT a tomboy. Not even close. Such beauty and grace never dwelt in one woman before.... ...

How to Use Low Cost Wedding Invitations

As expensive as they may be, it is imperative that a bride and groom have some type of invitations for their friends and family - thinking that you can use word of mouth to ask your friends to attend your wedding is a surefire way to be the only two that arrive!  But of course when you consider all the costs involved in weddings today it’s no wonder that many brides are searching for Budget Wedding invitations that they can use for their own ceremony.  You certainly don’t want to skimp on the i

The world’s heaviest man gets married

Manuel Uribe, the worlds heaviest man - who hasn’t left his bed in six years, married his longtime girlfriend, Claudia Solis, on Sunday in northern Mexico. The groom wore a white silk shirt with a sheet wrapped around his legs, and his new bride, Solis, 38, wore a strapless ivory dress, a tiara and hot-pink lipstick. 400 guests attended the civil wedding ceremony and Uribe broke into tears as the notary declared the couple husband and wife He later broke into tears as a notary declared the co

Child Brides -- Indonesia

There are plenty of ways to get media attention in Indonesia. One of the best is to publicly announce you have married a 12-year-old and intend to take a 9-year-old and a 7-year-old in the near future as wives. In most places this would be serial pedophilia and the perpetrator would be investigated and prosecuted and hopefully jailed. It should be noted that this is not an attack on Indonesia alone. I have written about the child bride practice in Yemen here. You can find other commentary he

On the Female Form

Or rather, on my female's form. (Oh, I am so going to get in trouble for this....) Thought 1: I am married to a very modest woman. Tonya was raised in the Church, and she takes her faith very seriously. And part of the way she expresses her faith is in the way she dresses. That is, she does not want to present herself to society as a sex object. So even when we are in social settings where it would be completely acceptable for her to wear V-necks, or shorts that come more than a couple inch

Bad Advice for Frugal Halloween Costumes

Post Bridal Market

I also got to see Rick Wee and Sandy Yeung of Marina Morrison Bridal Salon, of San Francisco, who were there with their entire entourage. If you are a Calif

Velocity Spring/Summer 2009: Under the Influence

Designer Statement: I’m a fashion rebel. I want to break all the fashion rules. Who says you need just one inspiration for a collection? There are too many influences in this world to be restrained. Backstage was a whirlwind when I arrived. So what if I was an hour late? All the organizers acted like it was a huge deal or something. Don’t all fashion shows start late? Besides, I was finishing my wedding gown. It was important. When I arrived with my collection inspired by “Valley of the Dolls”

About My Aunt Kay..Who Looks Like Eric Clapton

My Aunt Kay used to be glamorous and beautiful. Now, she is still extremely beautiful on the inside, but on the outside, she looks exactly like Eric Clapton. I’m going to put a picture of Eric Clapton on this post, and I promise, she looks exactly like that. Except that she wears dark maroon lipstick. (Also, in case you’ve never noticed, Eric Clapton kind of looks like a skinny Al Gore. Therefore, Aunt Kay also resembles Al Gore. But don’t worryâ€"she’s much “prettier”than Gore.) Oh, she also

How to find Low Cost Wedding Ideas

If you’re a bride searching for Economic Wedding ideas then take comfort in the fact that you’re not alone.  Considering how the cost of so many things has spiraled out of control in the last few years, it’s no wonder that a bride and groom may need to cut corners however they can when it comes to their wedding.Usually couples have to balance their desire for a low cost wedding thats still beautiful.  How can any couple do this? A delicious bridal shower idea

Raise your hand if you’ve been to so many bridal showers that you can make a toilet wedding paper dress with your eyes closed and a ribbon bouquet with one hand tied behind your back.  Ladies, it’s time for some new tricks!  Take your bridal shower or bachelorette party on an adventure.  Take surfing lessons or visit a rainforest or go skydiving if you have the dough.  What better way is there to bond with the bride-to-be before her wedding day than to share a new experience none of you will fo

Life's Too Short: Stilettos in Dinning Rooms.

Years ago when I was a bride preparing for my wedding, someone much wiser told me to take it all in by stepping aside. I still, to this date, remember that moment where I stepped off the dance floor in my white stilettos and into a corner to observe the wedding reception. I remember the small details such as the lead vocalist of our 10 person band needed a shave and the look of my goddaughter's face as my sister spun her around on the dance floor. I remember the procession of fancy petite fours

The weather was crazy and we got some truly stunning stuff. I think some of the work was our best to date. A little background on trash the dress for those of you who are not familiar. Trash the dress: Was a national phenomena where photographers take the bride back out after the wedding day and destroy the wedding dress. I am not a

Monogrammed Bride's Gift

I made this set of card about a month ago and never posted it! Darn, I AM getting forgetful! I think it's because I gave the cards to someone and there was nothing to jog my memory. You know...outta sight, outta mind? At least, that's my story and I'm stickin' to it! LOL!I went to a wedding about a month ago, and even commented about it on my blog, and the fact that I bought a card to go with the wedding gift. I know...I'm a terrible person!Well, the problem is that the mother of the gro

PROJECT: Corpse Bride Costume

A Corpse Bride costume goes down as a timeless classic. Not only because the Tim Burton movie is so eerily entertaining, but also because Emily, the dearly departed, is just too cute and funny to resist. Who wouldn't want to be her in the afterlife? To get the look, you can visit eBay to find handmade Corpse Bride-inspired dresses that are going for up to $300. Or you can check out the expensive packaged costume route, the flimsiness of which will only disappoint you. Third choice? The do-it-y

House of Mystery: Room and Boredom

I wasn’t looking for another series to read, but I tried the first issue of this new-style anthology, and I was hooked. House of Mystery: Room and Boredom Buy this book Cain and Abel, the DC horror comic hosts from the 70s who lived in the Houses of Mystery and Secrets, respectively, make a two-page cameo at the beginning, but after that, it’s all new. The House of Mystery is now a bar outside dimensions. Fig Keele is the newest inhabitant, chased by mysterious characters in old-fashioned

Western Wedding Reception

by Jules Barlie It is a beautiful as well as a surprising bonanza when you go to a western wedding. Fashionable western designs and decoration were specially brought for the out of the ordinary time by the bride and groom. I went with the notion that there will be a lot of confusion as it did like a casual affair but I couldn’t have been more wrong. The first indication that the couple was having a western wedding was apparent in the invitations. The couple chose an invitation design that us

Enjoy A Classic Monster Bride Halloween Costume

Enjoy A Classic Monster Bride Halloween Costume Posted in October 7th, 2008 by Aiden R. Ringoldsen in Arts & Entertainment by Aiden R. Ringoldsen Not sure what to wear this year for Halloween? Why not choose to go as a monster bride? The most common monster bride Halloween costume is probably the Bride of Frankenstein, from the classic movie of the same name. However, vampire brides, zombie brides, and other monsters are also popular. There are lots of costumes to pick from, making it easy

Zulus Eagerly Defy Ban on Virginity Test S. Africa's Progressive Constitution Collides With Tribal Customs NONGOMA, South Africa -- One week before, Nonhlanhla Mhkize had risen early, walked to her tribal chief's home, climbed a desolate hill and lain on a blanket for what leaders of her Zulu culture call an "inspection" of her genitals. Cheers

Hello everyone. This is Chandra, and I was the honored and lucky bridesmaid who took the task of smoothing out Nilsa’s bridal gown train at various points in the day, juggling her gorgeous (and surprisingly heavy) bouquet of calla lilies, orchids and roses, carrying tissues discretely down the aisle, holding the shoes she cast off at the end of the ceremony as being unnecessarily uncomfortable and bustling her dress, very very seriously. I also had the huge honor of preparing a speech for the re

Love the stash...

Do you hoard things? Because, apparently I do, lots of things.  I purchased this stamp titled "Wedding Gown Circle" from Stamping Bella, I think the very day that Emily released it.  I nearly grabbed all the coordinating little circular images, but for once, I exercised *a little* restraint. And then, this poor little sweet stamp sat there.  In line, in my generous "collection" of images. But I knew I'd have occasion to need it.  And then the other day my mother called with a need for a bridal s

DIY Halloween Costumes

October 25, 2008 I always love to make my own Halloween costumes.  Growing up, I was always a princess, bride, or mermaid.  Something girly and pretty.  In high school, I got into scary costumes as a part of our farm’s haunted hayride, so I loved doing scary make up, black shredded clothes, and crazy hair.  Last night, we went to our friends Alicia and Vinny’s costume party.  I made a mermaid costume and Ed was a fisherman.  I wanted to make a costume that would be inexpensive and made mostly o

Wedding Soundtrack

October 25th, 2008 I was just re-reading some old posts and I realized that I promised to publish the list of our wedding soundtrack that we included in the hotel welcome bags. It really is a fantastic soundtrack if I do say so myself. 7 of these songs are either written and/ or performed by good friends of ours so that makes them even more special to us. Our parents & Gary walked down the aisle to “Here Comes Your Man”, the bridesmaids & flower girls walked to “Into Your Arm

Katamari Damacy, Be Happy Again

Ali Starzyk EDITOR I hate the winter. It's horrible. My hair gets all staticky and Bride of Frankenstein-like, I can't be left outside for more than 5 minutes lest my body turn into an unhealthy blue and shivering mess, and I pretty much hate everything. It's a truly wonderful time for all people who come in contact with me as for some reason with the lack of sunlight comes my lack of patience, of kindness, and whatever makes up a normal, sociable human being. So, when I feel like the winter ti

Pearce Fionda junior bridesmaids dress from Debenhams

Pearce Fionda junior bridesmaids dress from Debenhams The only other lady who can get away with white on a bride's big day is her flower girl or junior bridesmaid. Thank goodness that's the case, or this utterly adorable frock would go to waste. By Pearce Fionda at Debenhams, the ruffles really make this a sweet take on a very fashionable dress shape at the moment. In a gorgeous ivory shade, with a very girly shape, it costs between £65 and £70 depending on the size.

Wedding Gown Preservation Helps Safeguard Your Memories

Wedding Gown Preservation Helps Safeguard Your Memories By Wedding Planner on Sep 24, 2008 in Wedding Planning | 0 Comments Brides spend a good deal of time finding just the right bridal dress for their walk down the aisle. The wedding dress is an important and memorable part of that most special of occasions. While the bride will certainly have many pictures taken of both her and her gown, she is also concerned about proper wedding gown preservation so that the dress can be maintained and ch

Rainy Day

It is chilly and bucketing down rain here. It's the first real rain we have had since sometime in July I think. I don't mind it but it does mean driving 2 hours in the rain to a wedding that has now been moved indoors. I'm sure that is a bummer for the bride & groom. To go from getting married in the beautiful fall mountainside to getting married in a random building that will either be very chilly or very overheated, because it was not intended to be used today, must be a bit of a letdown.

Bella Cullen Halloween Costume Ideas

Bella Cullen Halloween Costume Ideas Filed under: Holidays, Halloween, Halloween, costumes Bella Cullen, the main character from the popular Twilight Book series, is bound to be a popular Halloween costume this year.  The great thing is that Alice, a main vampire character, is always trying to dress Bella up…whether for pro or her wedding…so, you can take this costume in a couple of different directions. First choice: Bella attends the prom on crutches!  (She’s such a klutz!).  This is an

Real Wedding Saturday: Mary Beth & Otis

A photo from Mary Beth and Otis' wedding that I saw on Lucky Me! inspired me to make an inspiration board early in August - and now I'm lucky enough to share the entire wedding with you! Deciding that wedding planning is far too stressful, Mary Beth and Otis cut their engagement short, and planned the entire wedding in five months. Mary Beth used to work on the show Trading Spaces, so you know this wedding was full of do-it-yourself details, from the invitations to the burlap table runners. The

Autumn Cocktail dresses

Perfect for your wedding guest and maybe even your bridal party, don't you think?I'm sort of digging the all black dress and stockings with orange heels......

Real Wedding: Lisanne & Anthony

Lisanne has been a Snippet & Ink reader since almost my first post, and I even made a Moroccan-inspired wedding board for her last year. But then she inherited a collection of milk glass from her grandmother, and when she saw this inspiration board, she and Anthony decided that was the look they wanted for their July wedding. It's so fun to see one of my inspiration boards translated into a real wedding! Lisanne designed the save-the-dates, invitations, and programs herself, and had the pr

Back Stabber: Mom Hair

A black velvet, floor-length suit-dress enters the room. Tan pantyhose peeking out of dyeable shoes can be seen down below. The smell of Cinnabar fills the air. This may sound like a bad mother-of-the-bride getup until the woman turns around. Tufts of teased, badly highlighted and overly hair sprayed locks are held in place with a mammoth bow. The situation has now become your worst nightmare. You ferociously pinch yourself, but you aren’t waking up, and the poltergeist isn’t leaving the room

Daily Briefs: If I had a dollar for every Daily Briefs post, I'd have 200 dollars

Yesterday's action-packed nautical adventure was the 200th Daily Briefs post, which I totally did not notice until this morning. Starting on Monday, Daily Briefs will abruptly transform into a serial novel of action and intrigue on the vasty main, since that is obviously my core competency. Lord knows I can't stick to writing about "the news." So okay, here is some news: The Dow is down 400 in early trading, and a smart friend says that between 1 and 3 p.m., there will be a big sell-off as hedg

Chilly weather wraps

Something that I just thought about this week, as a cold front came through, is that I may get cold at my wedding - especially as we exit and take a carriage ride off. That’s what happens when you live in Texas, where it’s always hot!  You forget that in mid-November, the nights are a little chilly!! So I’ve been browsing around trying to get some ideas for something that would be cute with my dress, keep me warm, is affordable, and would be something that I would wear again.  I think my #1 f

Real Wedding Saturday: Kelly & Joe

There are just so many things to love about Kelly and Joe's beautiful September wedding. The venue is spectacular, the details are not only thoughtful and lovely but they were also designed and created by the bride, and Ian Grant's photos are just beautiful! The wedding took place at the Firestone Crossroads Estate in Los Olivos, California. Kelly and Joe wanted to get married in a beautiful outdoor venue in the Santa Barbara area, and looked at nearly a dozen places before visiting the

How Wedding Planners Help Couples Deal With a Challenging Event

Wedding days are special events that symbolize so many beautiful and celebratory components of the experience of life. Weddings are an opportunity to showcase hope for the future, dreams come true, and love and devotion. Even with these wonderful aspects of a wedding in mind, making the arrangements for such an event can sorely test and strain even the best of relationships and in many cases, looking to wedding planners is the best way to ease the stress of wedding planning. a private moment together before the wedding

We wanted to see each other before the wedding . . . so we did. :) After getting ready, we had a few moments alone.  Then our photographer (my oldest, as in longest known, friend) came in and took some shots of us enjoying those first few moments as bride and groom--our last few moments before becoming husband and wife. I LOVE this photo; she caught his expression beautifully!!! I also decided--a few days before the wedding--I didn't want the veil to cover my face.  I needed to read my vows a

Hot wedding boots

Tinywater Photography recently posted about Jocelyn & George’s Piedmont, California wedding … and it features a few of my favorite offbeat labels … a dress by Wai-Ching, and boots by Fluevog. In fact, I have these same boots in black, and those bitches are HAWT, and even more important for me: super comfortable. (Budget note: I was able to find the boots for almost half-off a while back on Amazon … but it doesn’t look like they’re available any more.) But Jocelyn & George’s wedding was about

LOVE/HATE: The Thin For a Day Edition

Jeez, I’m all about the hate lately, and today’s edition of LOVE/HATE just adds fuel to the fire. Have you ever heard of “Brideorexia?” I just came across it for the first time. It’s just a made up word for the bad habits some brides-to-be adopt because they think they aren’t good enough, skinny enough, or attractive enough to get married. Ugh! A study in Appetite found that 70% of engaged women were actively attempting to lose 20 or more pounds before their weddings. More than 20% of those

Trash the Dress Shoot 2: Wendy

Hi Bellas, Here are the pics from the second Trash the Dress Shoot I participated in a few months ago. The bride was gorgeous! She's a tomboy at heart so we made sure to give her a very natural look...subtle smokey brown eyes and some plum lips. I used individual lashes to also give her some natural definition. I finally got to use one my lustre twins from the longwear release. But ehh...I'd give it a C for lasting coverage. The shots came out great. Credits to Allan Levene Photography, Slava

Tanya & Gavin’s Wet & Windy Ship Wedding!

The offbeat bride: Tanya, Nursery Teacher Her offbeat partner: Gavin, Technical Officer Location & date of wedding: HMS Warrior - Portsmouth, England on March 24th, 2008 What made our wedding offbeat: We had been together for a while and decided to do the wedding thing our way. Wedding Jewelry For Your Wedding Day

Wedding Jewelry For Your Wedding Day A bride is the most important person in her wedding and naturally the wedding jewelry is always significant. A bride who adores all modern and chic looking things and prefers trendy items than traditional, will definitely desire a wedding jewelry that will reflect all the modern definitions. A basic pearls strand is a great choice for a classic bride, but definitely a modern bride should be on a lookout for handmade wedding jewelry that has a unique twist.

A Crystallizedâ„¢ Wedding Event Makes for the Perfect Night

Nuptial Slip and Fall: Negligent Best Man Causes Wedding Disaster on Video

Something old, something new, something borrowed, and something . . . dry. The video below shows the yet untapped potential of nuptial slip and falls. The video does not show the three personal injury lawyers diving into the pool by instinct. Count the potential litigants. If it is a private business, there is the fact that the business allowed water on the deck during an event with people in street shoes and high heels. This is a Joke, Right???

I am 43 years old. My age is not something I am afraid to tell people. My weight, on the other hand, is a giant secret (one which at the moment I do not even know). I have been gone all dayâ€"about 14 hours. Well, I was  home for about 45 minutes in the afternoon. Anyway, I was just checking my e-mail to see if there was anything pressing because I am tired and want to go to bed. But I got an e-mail that made me laugh so hard, it just seemed “blog-worthy” to me. This was the attachment (taken

New trend in India: Pre-Wedding checks

In India, the first step to planning a wedding is no longer hiring a florist, finding a great dress, or a spectacular reception hall. Lately, the latest trend is to hire a private investigator to check on you prospective bride or groom! This has created a wealth of business in India as most marriages are either arranged between families or through personal adds. As a result, the partner-to-be has his or her prospective partner investigated to assure that they are who they claim to be. Although

Vera Wang Often, The Gown determines just about everything else. putting on "the dress" and other bridal details

Finding a modest wedding dress is NOT easy!! There are many more choices online than there are in the stores. . . but after just a few hours of trying on dresses, I realized how VERY important it is to actually try on the dress. Especially when the wedding day is less than 60 days away. :D So, what I ended up with is perhaps not one I would have picked had I had more time to be selective (picky), but I learned to love it and am happy with this choice. And, I was also very grateful that it fi

Last week I received an e-mail for Carmel, a bride in New Zealand planning a wedding with a theme I just couldn't resist. She's combining her love of vintage fashion with the clean, minimal lines of a New York loft style gallery space. Be still my beating heart! She asked for a little help finding ideas and putting together an inspiration board, and I was more than happy to comply... Top row: Carmel's dress is by Temperly London, the same dress that the lovely Jennifer Garner recently wore to

Adult Halloween costumes for the Halloween party

Talking of Halloween costumes there are several Halloween parties which are strictly for adults and that means that you need to have adult Halloween costumes for the party and then if you are a female or a male you need to have that costume which will look sexy, sassy and smart. Let us talk about some adult costumes for females and again strictly speaking these costumes should really go with the theme of the Halloween party. But if there is no theme then you need to think about choosing one co

103308: "Holby City" Star Tom Chambers’ Wedding

More than a decade had passed since Holby City star Tom Chambers stood on the grounds of Repton school in Derbyshire, England and foretold that the young lady at his side, Clare Harding, would one day be his wife. On October 19, 2008 the actor’s prediction came true as the happy couple were united in marriage at the site. Lifting her veil from ground carpeted by autumn leaves, bridesmaids in brown gowns aided the bride as she walked to the entrance of the venue in a classic white wedding dress

Tightwad Tuesday: Frugal Halloween Costumes

Great Halloween costumes don’t need to come from the store. I remember when I was a little girl, I used to make my own Halloween costumes.  I don’t know whether it was because we couldn’t afford store bought, or whether my mom just wasn’t into buying costumes.  Regardless, I can’t ever remember buying a costume. One year I was a clown.  I took some old clothes and stuffed them with pillows to make myself round.  I painted my face with my mom’s makeup, and voila!  Instant clown! Another ye

09.27.08 - The First Details…

I’m a sucker for details. I love them so much that, naturally, I asked Perez Photography to take lots of them, and that they did! Here’s the first batch of photos that they snuck in while we were getting ready in my room. All photos credit to Perez Photography The OOT bags. The hotel even sent one up to our room, and then another to the honeymoon suite that night as well My wedding bands. Yes, I had two. No, I am not ashamed. Mr. H’s bling. Yes, bling. I have never met a man as hard

Scare me (Stupid)

I’m sitting here watching Martha Stewart talk about Halloween. My mouth is flapping open at the pure tasteful tastefulness of it all, and the incredible thing is, she’s just not stopping. I’ve tried sitting here in the hope that if I just stare it intently enough, it’ll go away; I’ve tried turning over, but something just keeps me switching back and finding that … … no, no, she’s still there, bibbitting away about making sure your floral arrangements match the fake blood trickling down the sid

Phil Spector Retrial: Day One of Jury Selection

Back in 2007, after the pretrial hearing where Judge Fidler ruled that cameras would be allowed in the courtroom, I asked Allan Parachini if the general public would be allowed to observe jury selection. He replied something to the effect that it would not be open to the public. So, I did not try to attend. I later learned that the accredited press were allowed in after some seats opened up. So that's what I decided to do for the retrial. I would go and see if I could get a seat for any part of

Spanning the Dial

This is the post where Dawn freaks out people who don’t quite fully know the depths of her disorder. Wow, the new television season gets completed later and later each year…30 Rock hasn’t even debuted yet. Neither has Lost, but the bulk of the new shows have started and the returning shows have returned. Each year I try to come up with a system for reviewing these shows, but every year it breaks down and I end up reviewing them as I think of them, so this year my plan, is to not have a plan! S

Mr. Blackwell dies at 86

It’s the end of a fashion era. Mr. Blackwell, the infamous author of the annual worst-dressed list, has died at age 86. His publicist Harlan Boll said the critic died Sunday of complications from intestinal infection. Every year fashionistas lived in fear of making his list and many of Hollywood’s elite did just that. Among the celebs on his list: Britney Spears (twice on her own and once tied with Paris Hilton), Paris Hilton (once, then tied with Brit), Zsa Zsa Gabor (two years in a row), Che

Damian + Kristina: 08.09.08 Marshall, MN Wedding

Kristina and Damian sure did put the pressure on for me. They are the second couple that has hired me after hiring another photographer first. I always feel bad for the other photog, but at the same time understand the importance of wanting to really love your wedding images and finding the right fit. What does this mean for me- lots of pressure to deliver. Can you imagine? This is an incredible compliment and what if I don't deliver and they wish they stayed with the other person and and and...

HELP! If you could ask Dracula a question.....

What would it be? I have a Toastmasters meeting on Thursday and since it's the one before Halloween we're all dressing up. I'm in charge of Table Topics, which is usually a thing done to get people to volunteer to come up and speak for anywhere from one word to a minute and a half. Well, since I'm a confirmed Halloween freak I thought what I would do is mix it up a little and do the TT as a psuedo anchor news. I, would be the interviewer, dressed as a Witch - I need a good name for a witch

Ultimate Elegance

From Madelyn: This look is ultimate elegance. The color palette is silver and white. It is simple yet so elegant and chic. The bride would wear a fantastic Monique Lhuillier gown. She would wear a breathtaking Tejani bracelet which sets the tone for the elegance of this look. On her ears she would wear a simple and chic pair of Euphoria earrings. Underneath her fabulous gown she would wear the most fabulous pair of Manolos around. The last piece of jewelry she would wear would be a beautiful but

Corpse Bride

I am REALLY excited for Halloween. How could I not? 7 winterless Christmas, I mean, 7 Halloween-less years. I am extremely deprived of candies. This is my "costume". The straps are from my bra, not the dress and I was wondering whether I should remove it(the straps) or not? Tell me your suggestions, please. I didn't do the full make-up I planned. On the day, I'll add some tear drops and perfect my make-up. This is just a rough look I'd like. My eyes, MY EYES! That consumed the most time,

The Kat that got the Cream!

I wanted to share with you guys a wonderful client experience that we had recently with an absolutely gorgeous bride. Kat approached us to create a bolero for her wedding dress that would compliment her ensemble and we were honored to work with her on that. Recently Kat got back in touch to share a pic of her on her wedding day that really made our day very special. I just love how this picture has caught Kat in such a state of happiness and obvious joy on her wedding day. I think she looks real

Santa Barbara

You have until 5:00 p.m. Pacific time today to enter my contest and potentially win $20.  One entry per comment, and you may enter as many times as you like.  Once upon a time, I lived in Santa Barbara.  It is, in my opinion, one of the most beautiful, romantic, places in the United States.  I love everything about the town, even it's faults (and there aren't many).  I love it when the weather is crystal clear with the mountains jutting up barely inland from the beach.  I love it when I wak

Black wedding dress advice

I recently featured a photo of a bride named Heather wearing her black wedding dress, and a commenter suggested interviewing her. Always one to oblige my readers, I tracked down Heather on Myspace, and fired away a few questions about what it was really like to wear a black wedding dress. What made you decided on a black dress? I’d originally bought a white dress about a year before the wedding, but every time I tried it on I didn’t feel like me and I was uncomfortable. About three weeks b

Wedding Suckage.

I used to like weddings. It was an excuse to dress pretty and get fucked up. Why aren't they fun anymore? One of my wife's co-workers got married on Saturday, and I was informed that this would be "the fanciest wedding we've ever been to", and that I was expected to wear a suit. Of course, we show up and I'm the only tool wearing a fucking suit. I nearly fell asleep during the Catholic wedding ceremony. The priest was droning on and on about Hershey's Kisses or some shit...whatever, it was the

What Type of Wedding Favors Will You Choose?

By Juliette Crane No modern wedding would be the same if it wasn't for the wedding favors and they are often the main subject of conversation after the venue and brides dress. Fortunately, there are a number of different options which are very easy to arrange at the last minute. This is important because it can take a great deal of stress when you realize the big event is rapidly approaching and these haven't been organized. An easy wedding favor option is flowers which really don't take much

Can I find financing for my wedding?

If you think money and love are two things that should stay separate, you are not being practical. Money makes its need felt even in the midst of the celebration of love. If a wedding can be called a celebration of love then money is right there from buying the ring to treating the guests. Add the word “wedding” while you are shopping and you will find the prices rising up by 30-50% immediately on any item. The fact is, over 2.3 million couples were married in the United States last year alone

Are You Renting A Limousine For Your Wedding

Are You Renting A Limousine For Your Wedding A wedding is a ceremony that celebrates the beginning of a marriage or civil union, and is considered one of the most important events in life, as well as a perfect opportunity to perform a traditional ceremony and celebrate with friends and family. Costs to creating the perfect wedding may vary, some may wish to stick to the traditional church-wedding types, and others may go for unique or otherwise adventurous stuff like getting married on roller c

Wedding Videographers A Lot More Typical In Recent Times

In most cases, couples who have been married for twenty years or more don’t have the advantage of being able to “watch” their wedding day on video, but are limited to their wedding photo album. But things have changed quite a bit in that regard and today arranging for wedding videographers is every bit as important as arranging for wedding photographers so that the couple can enjoy both a DVD chronicle of their day alongside their wedding photo album. Of course, also hiring a wedding videogra

How to Decorate on a Budget for a Budget Wedding

There are so many details involved in planning a Cheap Wedding Decorations and reception and of course while a bride is concerned over her appearance the look of her dress and flowers, she also wants the reception venue to look just as beautiful and elegant.  A true decorator can cost hundreds and maybe even thousands of dollars, but fortunately there are some very easy cheap wedding decorating ideas you can implement that will still give you a beautiful and elegant look overall. HyeYun + Jason | Korean Wedding NYC

This weekend we drove out to NYC for our friends’ wedding. As a guest I decided to limit myself to 50 frames, and ended up choosing 30. As part of a traditional Korean wedding, the bride and groom change into traditional Korean costumes (Hanboks) and do a bowing ceremony (Pyebaek) to honor their parents and special relatives. The bride serves them tea, and the parents present their gifts. My favorite part is when the parents throw figs (girls) and chestnuts (boys), and however many the cou

More From the Priscilla of Boston Show

Style Director Katie Hatch, 9:36 p.m.: Melissa Sweet's bridesmaid dresses were strong in the brownish gray range, a color I love that feels pretty sophisticated in this use. I shot a coat here. Again, I'm drawn to it because of the coverage it offers; for that reason, I think this may even work for a mother of the bride. I also found their short, flirty wedding dresses appealing. And they made a great dress with an accordion-pleated skirt that was delicate, feminine and light. That's

More Non-Wedding Wedding Dresses October 18, 2008

So far I’ve avoided the urge to be a two dress bride completely, but this gorgeous dress from the Nordstrom catalog almost made me reconsider. And for only $268? Buying a normal evening gown for your wedding dress definitely has it’s perks! I had to put the picture of the back of this dress, because the origami pleating is so pretty. I also love the soft pale pink color. This dress is $405 at Saks. This Nicole Miller dress would be so cool at a beach or outdoorsy wedding. From far away the fab

Try out some Low Cost Wedding Flower Ideas

Pauline and Christopher. A Quiet Morning Wedding in Tagaytay.

The day I was supposed to leave for the US, I shot this intimate wedding in Tagaytay.  Now I know intimate is a word that gets thrown around recklessly these days but this was the real deal - a thirty person wedding. I suppose it’s a Filipino thing.  200 persons in the guestlist is considered  “small and intimate”.  Last September 29th,  everybody could fit in a coaster (including the bride and groom and enough room for a videographer ;-)). Here’s the same morning edit. Pauline and Christop

Runway Recap: A Boring Bride Moves On To Bryant Park Oct 09, 2008 Here's the latest from SheFinds reader Casey: Last night's Runway was a bittersweet one. We lost one designer but we got a sneak peek at the final collections. First, though, we had the obligatory Tim Gunn home visits, which feel kind of like "The Bachelor" home visits without the family dinner and gratuitous making out. Back in New York, Tim tells the designers that their face-off challenge will be to create a bridesmaid

Thoroughly Trivial Tuesday! Today, allow me to show you a treasured family heirloom. The man she is marrying is Carl Yahnke. It is November 21st, 1904, and obviously an occasion of great pomp and ceremoâ€"huh. Wait a minute. Is that…? Is her dress open? I have seen

Board #299: Tangelo, Cameo & Gold

It is entirely possible to have an orange autumn wedding without a single pumpkin - actually, this palette of wheat gold, cameo pink, tangelo orange and cream would work equally well in spring and summer, but autumn is what I had in mind when making this inspiration board. These colors would let you use dahlias for fall, roses in summer, and poppies in spring. There is something eternally romantic about a cameo brooch (many of which can also be worn as pendants). Paired with a whimsical cake (de

Tradition of the Bouquet of Flowers

The Bouquet of Flowers that brides carry at weddings, date back to ancient times. Originally, bouquets were made along with strong herbs and garlic to ward off evil spirits, and also because people didn’t bath that frequently in ancient times and needed something to offset the body odor.  In ancient times brides were considered to be lucky on their wedding day and so guests would try to get something from the bride, like pieces of her wedding dress, and thus the bouquet toss, was an effort by t

Find Cheap Wedding Centerpiece Ideas

Pamela Ford | How would you change your wedding?

I went to a wedding last weekend. The ceremony was lovely, the bride and groom, Dan and Lindsey, a striking couple very much in love, the reception elegant, the atmosphere festive. But, I got to wondering…if people could go back and do their wedding all over again, what would they change? Soon, I was asking the question out loud. Leaving out the jokester who replied, “I’d change the groom,” here are some of the answers I got. Katie, who married three years ago, wishes she had videotaped the cer

Professional make up service =) *this is not a paid post!* October 16th, 2008   Looks like prom and festive season is coming again. What a Wedding

Okay, when you got married did everything go as planned? Were there some unexpected events? My friend and her boyfriend went to this wedding and boy was it weird! They chose a place north of us, so it was a few hours of a drive. When they get out of the car and it’s hotter than blazes outside. He’s standing around in a full tuxedo while they wait for the couple to show up. The groom was half an hour late and the bride was almost two hours late…and not wearing her dress! So, they had to wait long

Essie and Pat + The Main Event

We started off the day with the wonderful Hurricane Ike coming through. It rained all day but that didn’t stop us from workin it out in a GORGEOUS hotel called the Intercontinental.  Our day was filled with laughter, tears, and of course a tornado siren. We are definitely in Kansas Toto. This is the what the weather looked like outside….YUCK!! but the inside was o’ so…pretty…. Essie’s dress was one of my favorites. It was this very soft flowy dress. Oh…I wish I could wear a dress like

The Mothers’ To-Do Lists for the Wedding

The Mothers’ To-Do Lists for the Wedding October 16th, 2008 by Sarah Null Sure, the bride and groom have a lot to do in planning and preparing for their wedding (perhaps the bride most of all), but there’s two other women who have some very important roles in the blissful day:  the mothers.  Let’s face it, if it weren’t for the mother of the bride and the mother of the groom, would we even be talking about this particular wedding? So let’s honor their contributions and take a closer look a

Wedding Dress - The One Thing That Makes The Bride Shine

There is no doubt that there is a huge amount of excitement in the air any time a wedding is being planned. One of the most important of the many and varied decisions that have to be made is the wedding dress that will be worn by the bride, for the time when she will glide down the aisle toward her groom to begin the ceremony. While the bride and groom are really the proper center of attention on the big day, it is natural and customary for the bride to be a bit more in the spotlight and the

I have to share a story about my wedding dress.  The day I bought it might have been the day that I became an official bargain shopper!  My dad had seen that big commercial that David’s Bridal has every year where they show the father of the bride that there are dresses available for $99! So my dad told me, see they are affordable! Yikes! I finally found the dress I loved at a store for $799. With my heart set on that dress, I headed over to the clearance isle to see what the store had availab

My Dad Actually Purchasing A Classic Mustang

I really haven’t so much had any time to talk on the weblog quite as much as I had expected, on account of how much I have been helping my old man with his wild & crazy midlife crisis. Okay, some would argue it’s not as far gone as it could possibly be. You see, the way he played it out was to go and dress himself up like fonzie, and come over to my crib and proclaim to me, in his jazziest tone of voice: “Come on in, bro, we are out shopping for some classic Ford Mustangs for sale. You bett

Colorado Part III

Wednesday, October 15, 2008 Ok, I gotta write this all down. The memories are quickly fading. Saturday started off with the girls rushing out the door to have breakfast at a local bakery. It was nice for us all to relax and get to try to make Laura feel as special as possible. After breakfast we ran a few errands & met up at the hair salon…Oh, the hair salon. The salon was SO expensive and SO odd. Everyone’s hair turned out great, but I made them re-do mine. The first “do” she gave me mad

Hey, Baby

Drew and I spent the weekend in Cleveland where we attended a wedding under an Oak tree. I spent two weeks looking for something to wear, which means I made a half-hearted trip to Filene's Basement one afternoon, bought something as a "back-up" in case I didn't find anything better and then never bothered to look anywhere else. I did, however, win an eBay auction for some awesome long-string vintage necklaces with a lot of bling, and last Thursday, I made a trip to Urban Outfitters to find some

The wedding that was

My brother got married to the girl of his dreams last summer. It was a long dream they shared - they’ve been together for 12 years! Pristine and I flew to the Philippines to attend the grand event. The couple had a Catholic wedding, held at a local church. Here are 13 photos taken during the special day and some details on what happens on a traditional Filipino (Catholic) wedding. I’ll start the tour with the photos of the bride and the groom while they were preparing for their big day in the

Professional Photography Alternatives

This week a reader emailed me and pointed out that a lot of the weddings I feature have gorgeous professional photography, and that I have a lot of photographers as sponsors. This is true. I admit to being a sucker for beautiful photography, and having a soft spot in my heart for indie photographers as wedding elves*. However, writing with a eye to the practical, I'm well aware that not every couple can afford, or wants to pay for, pro-photography. Lots of the weddings that I've featured have go

Blog Action Day 2008: Poverty

Today is Blog Action Day, and the subject is poverty.  So we’re going to talk a little bit today about how our weddings and our blog community can help those less fortunate or contribute to changing our world for the better, in any small way that we can.  I fully realize that this post won’t even begin to address the massive world issue of poverty and that weddings and poverty are an incongruent combination.  Rather, I hope that Blog Action Day and all of the posts that are being written provi
